I use to over commit and be involved in all kind of community affairs and work and projects and people…. I don’t recommend that… you burn out and are useless to yourself and the world…
So now I try to keep it real with community affairs, what am I truly drawn to… what’s my soft spot… what matters the most to me…. I use to have a hard time picking one or two non-profits to give to… and it still is hard there are so many that do so much.
But when I drilled it down to the soft spot… its animals…. I hate to see animals, children and seniors abused… I say pick on someone your own size… leave the loving, sweet and kind alone… there are other dicks out there to pick on, go there. But it just doesn’t seem to work that way… people do some very horrendous things to living creatures.
And I know there are a lot of broken people out there that are motivated by having been abused themselves… I so understand the cycles… but it still isn’t okay…. I broke my family cycle, the price hurts and maybe it wasn’t the right choice but I can’t undo that choice, therefore it is…. I was abused as a child… I chose not to have children because I would rather never to have the joy of the experience than risk the possibility of a continued cycle.
I do understand more than I care to but never the less, my soft spot is the weak being preyed upon. So, my non-profits of choice are animal based usually. They can’t even speak they are most assured the easiest to prey upon.
I have listed a few of my favorite Non-Profit Sites (even non animal ones):
Best Friends Animal Society
The National Arbor Day Foundation
North Shore Animal League America
